The “Birth of Venus” – A Botticelli-Inspired Bridal Shoot

by | Aug 3, 2017 | Themes, Uncategorized

Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” is a renowned example of Italian Renaissance art and a beautiful symbol of feminine grace and beauty. The painting depicts the moment the goddess Venus is gently blown onto dry land after having emerged from the sea in a conch shell.

Inspired by her love for Botticelli’s Venus, photographer Nicole Kameenui of Darling Today designed a bridal inspiration shoot which includes a modern-day Venus clothed in an ethereal MYWONY bridal gown, and surrounded by the intoxicating waterfront vista of a private residence in North Carolina.

Nicole adds:
“As a lover of art, I am constantly inspired by different mediums such as paintings and sculpture. “Birth of Venus” is a painting that I’ve admired since my years in school and I feel it emulates the beauty of women in such an elegant and powerful way.”

About the chosen color palette:
“I decided to keep the color palette similar to the colors you see in the painting; shades of blue, green, and pinks. I also decided to feature copper and gold accents as a way to bring warmth to the soft palette.”

It’s a pleasure to present this mini-feature of Nicole’s vision…along with excerpts from the poem commonly thought to have inspired Botticelli’s rendering of Venus by Angelo Poliziano.

“You could swear that the goddess had emerged from the waves,”

“You would call the foam real, the sea real,
real the conch shell and real the blowing wind…”

“You would see the lightning in the goddess’s eyes,
the sky and the elements laughing about her; the
hours treading the beach in white garments, the
breeze curling their loosened and flowing hair…”

“A young woman…is
carried on a conch shell, wafted to shore by
playful zephyrs; and it seems that heaven
joices in her birth.”
