Mini-Feature: Samara & Mikhaile’s Dreamy New Jersey Estate Wedding

Sep 15, 2017 | Fairytales

“Family and friends are hidden treasures, seek them and enjoy their riches.”

A wedding is quite possibly the biggest event a couple will host, if not because of its size, certainly because of its milestone status. Seeking and accepting support, in various forms, is not only a wise thing to do but can also be quite gratifying. If the people you love truly want to be a part of your special day, try to embrace their eagerness and give some careful thought as to how you would like to fit them in.

Our Beloved Bride Samara, along with her collective of talented friends, family, and professional vendors, used her keen eye for detail and spirited ingenuity to make her “Black Tie” wedding at the stately Ashford Estate a truly heartfelt family and cultural affair. Seamlessly knit together by Planner Simone Vega of Coordinated To Perfection, this wedding is chock full of love and is sure to inspire you to think creatively about how you might channel your uniqueness and forage special touches for your big day…

How they met…
“I am a litigation attorney, and Mikhaile is a sports and entertainment attorney and talent representative. We met one evening in the law library at Columbia Law School, when I was a first-year law student and he was starting his second year. I just finished my Contracts readings for the next day, and still had a long night of Torts and Civil Procedure readings ahead, when Mikhaile came over and introduced himself on his way out.  The conversation only lasted a couple of minutes, but Mikhaile soon became my favorite library study buddy, and over time, my best friend. ” – Samara

All the lovely details:

“My cousin officiated our ceremony, members of both of our families did readings, and Mikhaile’s sister performed a song with the band at our reception. We also had custom cocktail napkins made with various fun facts about our relationship (including the fact that we got married on the anniversary of the day we met), a custom hand-painted aisle runner with our initials and wedding date, and a crystal monogrammed cake topper.” – Samara

“My mother, who is incredibly artsy and creative, decorated the broom we jumped for our ceremony (an African American tradition), our card box, the ribbon belts my bridesmaids wore, and the hanger for my wedding dress.  She also baked dozens of individual bundt cakes for our welcome bags. Mikhaile’s mother made our wedding favors–individual jars of homemade guava jelly. The jelly and the Caribbean rum cake we served with the strolling desserts at our wedding were a nod to Mikhaile’s Caribbean heritage.”

“The wedding gifts we exchanged were also very personal.  I gave Mikhaile monogrammed Tiffany cufflinks and a custom etched and hand-painted bottle of bourbon with our wedding slogan/hashtag (“Savary in Love”), wedding date, and a message from me to him.  He gave me a Tiffany’s heart necklace with our initials (my new ones) and our wedding date, and a bracelet engraved with the coordinates of Columbia Law School, where we first met.”

“To ensure that we had a packed dance floor all night, we hired the most amazing band (CTO Park Central) and provided flip flops in various sizes for all of the ladies in attendance. We also created his and her signature drinks (the “Something Old Fashioned” and “Something New”) and had custom illustrated drink signs”.

But, at the end of the day, even though all of the little details were wonderful, the best thing about our wedding day was starting our new life together as a married couple, surrounded by our family and friends from all over the world.”
